SUMMARY:Hamamatsu: Qubits to Brain Imaging (Quantum Computing and Sensing)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, March 25 at the Princeton Public Library to hear from Klea Dhimitri of Hamamatsu Photonics as we continue to explore all things quantum! \nThis month we’ll switch our focus from hot startups to feature Hamamatsu\, a global leader in photonics. Klea’s talk will explore Hamamatsu’s recent advances in quantum sensing for non-invasive brain imaging (with its optically pumped magnetometers for Magnetoencephalography (MEG) applications)\, as well as its photonic solutions for trapped‑ion and neutral‑atom quantum computers. \nAlong the way\, Klea will touch on the nobel prize-winning technique for using laser light to cool\, trap and manipulate atoms and ions\, and provide a high-level look at how quantum sensors work. \nQuantum sensors in general measure physical quantities with unprecedented precision and sensitivity beyond what can be done with classical devices. In addition to magnetometers that measure magnetic fields\, other quantum sensors measure images\, gravity\, time\, acceleration\, temperature and other properties. This leads to exciting new applications such as GPS-free navigation\, advanced medical imaging\, more precise atomic clocks\, and analysis of under ground geology to identify faults and locate minerals\, oil\, and buried objects. \nAnd while quantum computers garner most of the attention\, quantum sensors are more commercially advanced! So it’s time we examine this important segment in more detail. \nAgenda\n6:00pm – Pizza and Networking\n6:30pm – Quantum News\, Don Grust\n6:40pm – Hamamatsu\, Klea Dhimitri\n7:15pm – Wrap-Up\, Networking \nQuantum News\nA brief update on the latest news from the quantum industry. \nAbout Hamamatsu Photonics\nHamamatsu Photonics has spent more than 70 years developing photonic technologies for industries ranging from medical and semiconductor manufacturing to emerging markets such as LiDAR and quantum. Today\, Hamamatsu is building photonic solutions that support all three pillars of quantum technology: quantum computing\, quantum communication & networks\, and quantum sensing. \nKlea Dhimitri is an Applications Engineer at Hamamatsu Corporation\, leading quantum‑focused activities in quantum computing and quantum communication. She works closely with industry\, academia\, and R&D teams in Japan\, specializing in advanced photodetectors and imaging technologies for quantum systems

SUMMARY:memQ: Connecting Quantum Processors
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Feb 19 at the Princeton Public Library to hear from Chuck Foley from memQ\, as we kick off 2026 and continue to explore all things quantum! \nmemQ is another hot quantum startup that will join us to share their origin and technology story. memQ was spun-out from the University of Chicago in 2021 to solve another important quantum problem\, which is how to enable Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) to connect reliably over distances. While industry has initially focused on qubit density – i.e. how many qubits can we get onto a single chip – the next ‘big problem’ will be how to network these systems to work together. \nChuck will discuss memQ’s business\, technology and origin story including their residence at the Chicago Quantum Exchange’s renowned Duality Accelerator. Two key components of their solution that Chuck will cover are their quantum memory and quantum photonics integrated circuit (PIC) technology. \nChuck Foley is Executive Chairman of memQ. Chuck provides over 40 years of hi-tech experience to the memQ board of directors\, with successful IPO and exits across management and board roles. Mr Foley also sits on the board for Critical Links\, RunSafe Security and VIZpin. \nAgenda\n6:00pm – Pizza and Networking\n6:30pm – Quantum News\, Don Grust\n6:40pm – memQ\, Chuck Foley\, Chairman\n7:15pm – Wrap-Up\, Networking
